I ended up taking my “Sea of fuzzy monsters” sketch and doing it all over with ink. This was more of a meditative than an artistic, carefully planned process. I took pictures at different stages of drawing the picture, so you can check out how this particular one developed.
The sea of fuzzy monsters as a pencil sketch (bottom left), a first attempt at inking with the wrong nib (top left), and the second attempt at inking with the right nib (right) as work in progress
Phase two: shading. This was both fun and excrutiatingly slow.
The (almost) final. Typically, at this point, the ink drawing will lie around on my desk for a few months until I either decide to just hang it up as is, or to finish it properly (thereby accidentally destroying it). The future will tell.
PS: Who knew drawing tiny lines can drive you crazy?
